About Hypnotherapy

Is hypnotherapy safe?

Yes, clinical hypnotherapy is completely safe when conducted by a trained, licensed professional. You remain in control throughout the session and cannot be made to do anything against your will or values. Hypnotherapy is recognized by major medical organizations as a legitimate therapeutic tool.

What does hypnosis feel like?

Most people describe hypnosis as a deeply relaxed, focused state similar to meditation or daydreaming. You remain aware of your surroundings and can communicate with your therapist. Many clients feel refreshed and calm after a session, as if they've had a restorative nap.

Can everyone be hypnotized?

Most people can experience hypnosis to some degree. The ability to enter hypnosis varies from person to person and depends on factors like willingness to participate, trust in the process, and individual suggestibility. Even those who feel they "can't be hypnotized" often experience beneficial relaxation and focus.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies depending on your goals and individual circumstances. Some clients see improvements after just a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term work. During your consultation, we'll discuss realistic expectations and create a personalized treatment plan.

Neuroplasticity & Brain Training

How does neuroplasticity work?

Neuroplasticity is the brain's ability to reorganize and form new neural connections throughout life. Through targeted exercises and techniques, we can literally rewire neural pathways, creating new habits, thoughts, and behaviors. This process is supported by decades of neuroscience research.

What is brain training?

Brain training involves specific exercises and techniques designed to enhance cognitive function, improve memory, increase focus, and develop new neural pathways. Our programs combine evidence-based cognitive exercises with therapeutic techniques for optimal results.

How long does it take to see changes in the brain?

Neuroplastic changes can begin within days of starting new practices, with more significant changes typically occurring over weeks to months. The timeline depends on factors like consistency of practice, individual neuroplasticity, and the specific goals being addressed.

Treatment Process

What can I expect in my first session?

Your first session is primarily an assessment and consultation. We'll discuss your goals, medical history, and any concerns. I'll explain the therapeutic process and answer your questions. If appropriate, we may do some light relaxation work to help you become comfortable with the process.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

No referral is necessary for hypnotherapy sessions. However, we recommend informing your healthcare provider about your therapy, especially if you're addressing medical or mental health concerns. We work collaboratively with your existing healthcare team when appropriate.

What should I do to prepare for a session?

Come wearing comfortable clothing and try to arrive a few minutes early to settle in. Avoid heavy meals or stimulants beforehand. It's helpful to think about your goals and what you'd like to achieve through therapy. Bring any questions you might have.

Will I remember everything from the session?

Most clients remember most or all of their hypnotherapy session. Hypnosis is not sleep or unconsciousness - you remain aware and can recall the experience. Some details might feel dreamlike, which is normal and doesn't affect the therapeutic benefits.

Practical Information

Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes, we offer both in-person and virtual sessions via secure video platform. Virtual sessions can be just as effective as in-person sessions for many therapeutic goals. We'll help you determine which format is best for your needs.

What are your cancellation policies?

We require 24-hour notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Sessions cancelled with less than 24-hour notice may incur a fee. We understand that emergencies happen and will work with you when possible.

Is my information confidential?

Absolutely. All therapeutic information is strictly confidential and protected by professional ethics and legal requirements. Information is only shared with your written consent or in rare cases required by law (such as imminent danger to self or others).

Do you accept insurance?

While hypnotherapy is not typically covered by insurance, many clients use HSA or FSA funds for payment. We provide detailed receipts that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Please check with your provider about coverage.

Can I claim private health insurance rebates?

Yes! SIRKKA is an approved provider recognised by select Australian private health insurers. Eligible clients may claim rebates through their extras cover, depending on their health fund and policy. We recommend checking with your insurer about hypnotherapy coverage, rebate amounts, and session limits. Bring your membership details to your first session and we'll help guide you through the process.
